ABOUT THE LONG ROOM
Our Story
The Long Room is a premier event venue centered around creativity, expression, and community. It is available to rent for a wide range of events such as weddings, receptions, cocktail parties, live concerts, performances, art exhibitions, brand activations, creative installations, corporate events, speaker series, and beyond.
An Unexpected Partnership
The Long Room is the result of a two-year-long artistic collaboration between Matthew Seneca, a tango dancer and former actor & high school English teacher, and Sarah Hayes Harkins, a former principal dancer with Charlotte Ballet. Their paths first crossed during the pandemic when Charlotte Ballet’s season was canceled, as were all tango events in Charlotte and across the country. Both Matt and Sarah were looking for a way to keep dancing and sustain their creative lives, and they decided to exchange lessons - ballet for tango! This exchange proved to be more fruitful than either of them ever expected. Two years later, they joined forces to run Tango CLT, an active tango school, and launched The Long Room, a premier event venue.
A Unique Space
Located on Central Avenue on the border of the Belmont and Plaza Midwood neighborhoods, the 2,800-square-foot event space opened its doors in The Long Room in the fall of 2023. Original details from the 1953 historic building are featured in the space such as the soaring ceilings, aged brick and concrete walls, four large windows and wrought iron details.
A unique viewing balcony overlooks the length of the primary event space where premium amenities set the stage for an event, including a state-of-the-art sprung hardwood dance floor, professional-grade theatrical lighting and sound systems. Additional amenities include access to a full kitchen with hot box, tables and chairs, bar facilities, and ample parking options.
